Our mission is to preserve and celebrate the legacy of WAMO from its inception in 1948 to its conclusion under Sheridan Broadcasting in 2009. In creating our highly anticipated documentary project, WAMO: The Sound of the Steel City, we were inundated with love and support from the Pittsburgh community, who remain loyal fans and staunch supporters.

A Documentary Film of the Groundbreaking Radio Station in Pittsburgh, PA
WAMO: The Sound of the Steel City is a feature-length documentary film for Pittsburgh, PA’s prominent radio station, WAMO, and its significance in the Black community. Directed by Tashee “TeeJay” Johnson, the film highlights WAMO’s cultural impact through exclusive interviews, behind-the-scenes stories, and rare archival footage, as told by some of the legendary organization’s top talent and community leaders. This powerful film will also serve as a tribute to Pittsburgh’s urban legacy and a heartfelt gift to generations who grew up with WAMO as the soundtrack to their lives.

TA Productions is the company behind the highly anticipated WAMO: The Sound of the Steel City, premiering in February 2026. Don’t miss out as we’re taking you back with WAMO: The Sound of the Steel City Online Radio & Podcast. Annual documentaries and live events are also planned, with proceeds supporting nonprofit scholarship programs for students across the Pittsburgh region.
